Subject: RE: Uniform Guidelines
As you may already know, things have cnahged since you posted your remarks on "Uniform Guidelines" back in '02.
One of your three LIST OF RECOMMENDED SUTLERS:
C & D JARNAGIN Company, THE QUARTERMASTER SHOP and the FALL CREEK SUTLERY is offering some of the most inappropriate signal insignia we have ever seen offered to the re-enacting community.
The officer shoulder boards offered by one of these sutlers with the cross'd flags in the middle of the rocker is pure fantasy. The real challenge, however comes though in the oval cap devices. There is a plain cross'd flag device (we think is being offered as the enlisted man's badge) without the thirteen silver stars in the upper quadrant. It also has no US. markings in silver. In fact, one of the two devices which seem to be offered as an officer's cap badge is identical to the one with the over-done gold wreath and Old English "U.S." but lacking the "U.S.".
Was there a design to corner the Confederate market by leaving off the US initials?
We've contacted the offering sutler asking for documentation but to no avail. Recently the sutler stand operator informed one of our event attending associates that the patches would be removed from the in-stock items but a recent check to their website begs to differ.
I truly appreciate the efforts you and others have made (see: View Parent Message) and hope that a few of our associates might be willing to take on the task of providing our readership with priority lists of purchase items and where these sources might be found. There are many sites currently on the Internet doing this for their members.
