Subject: RE: Telescope & Marine Glass Lense, Observations Concerning the Care of

Message Detail:
Good advice from Walt, Eric. As to the first (the use of newsprint), recall that the paper of the 1860s was rag content, where as today it's wood pulp. Lens cleaning material of sort used for camera lens would be my suggestion.
Peter Abrams' web pages is a good place to check out articles on the broad subject (albeit his original emphasis was on astronomical telescope) and they show the skill and practice necessary for disassembling lens "packs," or "sandwiches" (cells). For most of us, I'd say, don't try it--leave it to a pro, which is pretty much Walt's advice. You can afford to pay three, ten, or twenty times what you got the 'scope for and still have saved money!
