I won't belabor the point--just understand that the NPS listing (which is NOT a de-duped, analyzed list) mixes two different organizations and is incomplete. You can NOT say it represents a list of men who served in THE Signal Corps. Under Confederate law there was only one organization entitled to that name. The other was supposedly organized under oral authority of SecWar or lower authority and "tolerated." They can not be distinguished in the NPS listing. If there is value in having such a listing for some sort of ref purposes, and users understand this, have at it. Just be careful what title you use for it.
(Or as a distingushed Former High Official might have put it, "It depends on what 'the' is.")
