Message Detail:
Walt,

I appreciate your feedback...

I responded to Chuck without much detail or clarification, but as you are aware, the Signal Corps went through many transitions during the war.

I could ramble on for hours, but one of my main thoughts about this topic would focus on the contrast between the early part of the war, where just about all of the men were literally, "DETACHED, for service to a temporary organizational structure, bringing their line regiment uniforms and equipment with them, and the later part of the war where men were being specifically recruited to serve in the formally established and permanent, "SIGNAL CORPS," with its own distincitve uniforms, insignia and etc., etc., etc.........

This contrast does leave the door open for a degree of variance when determining how a Signal Corps detachment might chose to initially outfit itself...

I am not sure as yet as to how this could be addressed within the context of a, "Signal Corps Uniform Standards," guideline, but I think it should be addressed in some fashion...

Anyway, thoughts to ponder...

Chip
