Anthony, Looks like you can have your cake and eat it too. Signal Corps Officers, excepting perhaps The Confederate Independent Signal Corps, under Major Jas. F. Millligan, were all all assigned to duty out of the chief signal officers' offices of either the US or CS army general signal bureax. In other words, officer were assigned to serve with the various staffs usually on corps and/or division level and with the general staff of an army. Dave Gaddy might have more information on the Confederate breakdown as I think (if I am not entirely mistaken) Robert E. Lee, being from the old and noble school or soldiering, actually had little regard for signal officer and consider'd them a meere cut or two above spies. Help us out here Dave. Best Regards, |
