Subject: How to use signalmen properly
Someone has recently suggested that we look into creating a committee to discuss "How to use signalmen properly" and even give thought to conducting workshops at annual winter/spring organizational meetings for event field commanders? What about a "This is what signalling can do the help you" pamphlet.|
Personally, I think this to be an excellent idea, but would like to hear from as many active or former (SCARD as well as allied associate) signallists and telegraph operators here at the forum first. Is there room for improvement and rough edge sanding or have certain ones amongst us "already arrived" and need no improvement on this and other fine points of signal re-enacting politics.
In keeping with this theme, could SCARD also stand to gain insight from the research side of our group? Well? It is understood and expressed by some that the re-enacting communicators are treading down the same historical paths as their 1860's counterparts as to gaining recognition, organizing, training and deploying a unified system of field communcators and gaining the near-lasting success (because success can not hoped to be grand-fathered forever) by producing concise and detailed after-action-reports for the edification of over-all field commanders and the communication segment of the re-enacting community.
This missive is addressed to anyone who'd like to take a shot at it. As a national (or should I now say International) clearing house, what do you think SCARD's future direction should be, and how would you propose to go about implimenting it?
