I always thought that it was Lt B.F. Williams who served as signal officer for Hindman's Corp during this campaign. Williams was assigned to Hindman's staff during February of 1864.
The 7th Georgia Infantry was assembled in Atlanta and many of the men came from the Marietta area. Bellinger probably knew the area better than most.
I suspect that Bellinger was actually involved with keeping a close watch on Leggett's command during the first few days of July of 1864 to make sure that an orderly withdrawl could be made to the Chattahoochee River line near Vinings.
