Greg, Add me to the list of those who will be eagerly awaiting your work on Capt. Fortescue. I've given a good bit of study to the Confederate investment of Harpers Ferry in Sep 62, in which his presence (and absence) played an interesting role. (Why did he evacuate Md Hgts?) His "early war" experience and recollections should be a real addition to our knowledge, based on so much "end-of-the-war" data. You're quite right about two years (plus) to birth, after final conception. Hang in there! The temptation is to revel in the research forever. Old Marine Col/advisor once told me that the hardest part of the process was picking up the pencil (i.e., stop researching and start writing). You've obviously passed well beyond that stage. I'm drooling.
