Hello All:
Walt was kind enough to invite me to participate in this wonderful forum, and reading over the messages to date, I'm happy I did. By way of introduction, my name is Greg Acken, and I'm putting the finishing touches on the Civil War Signal Corps (and POW) memoir of Capt. Louis R. Fortescue (29th PV and Acting Signal Officer with the Army of Virginia and Army of the Potomac). Fortescue served in the Signal Corps along the Potomac (at Point of Rocks and Sugarloaf) in the winter of 61-62; with Banks in the early Valley and Second Manassas campaigns, and then with the Army of the Potomac until just after Gettysburg, when he was captured and spent the balance of the war in prison. His lengthy memoir (most of which covers his signal service) offers a lot of good information on the day to day life of a signal officer. I should have it completed within the next 60 days (I have edited it for the past six years) and have had interest from several publishers. Walt suggested I share this with you, and I'm happy to be aboard and look forward to reading all of the posts!
