Good find, Walt. Rogers is prominently noted in approaching signaling from a nautical/naval standpoint, but largely ignored or overlooked when we approach from an army viewpoint--probably because Myer and his influence so dominated army thinking in the 1860s and 70s. It would be of interest to know what he considered "semaphoric" signals in the mid-1840s--I doubt that it was what we term "semaphore" today.
