Bobby, I presume you're also Mike (and John's) Webmeister. That's a very nice and very promising web site you've set up for this topic, as you'll see from the "advertising" you three have gotten on this site lately. Electrical science being in its infancy at the time, there was a natural affinity between telegraphers and those who used electrical current for other things (that went boom in the night)--plus the fact that the chief of the Confed Signal Corps proposed to have his men place Courtney coal bombs or other infernal devices).
