Subject: Early Parachute Drawing - Open and Descending
According to the 1897 Encyclopaedia Britannica, the first parachute was that devised by André Garnerin, in 1797. Notice in this drawing that the parachute is opened and carrying a person safely back to earth. Did it work in actuality? I don't know. But it would be interesting to know.
