Subject: RE: NEW WEB SITE
Frank Stringfellow tried to enlist in an outfit commanded by a collateral relative of mine, Captain and later Major Robert E. Utterback, Co. D, 4th Va Cav.
If the book "Stringfellow of the Fourth" is the same one I'm thinking of, I found it to have been frustrating due to its lack of footnotes. It conveyed a lot of information that would have supported Dave Gaddy and his friends' theories presented in their book "Come Retribution." Problem is, where did the author find his evidence? Without putting his cards face up on the table, he spoke of a place along the Occoquan called "Arundel" as having been a safe house where Stringfellow stayed when infiltrating into Alexandria.
When Dave and friends wrote their book, Arundel was described as being where part of Mosby's command and an officer from the CS Torpedo Bureau fought one of the last combat actions in Virginia. I wish the author had been more forthcoming with his sources.
