Subject: Flatlander Signal Re-enactors @ Events

Message Detail:
Hi Pete,

I agree with yor statement that most 1860's signal assets were assigned 'and always by a written order' to the higher head-quarters at the outset of campaigns. And you are correct in saying that stations were sometimes located in and parties found themselves what became exposed and forward areas of action.

That is what I was getting at when I spoke of signal elements temporarily being assigned to cavalry squadrons
or companies of infantry for reconoitering purposes or on naval vessels or perhaps ranging in the artillery. Re-enactments occasionally tend to produce such on-site opportunities, even at some flatlander events of whatever size.

My Best to you Sir -
Walt
