Pete/Walt, pardon the intrusion (for your exchanges are interesting) but again I was jolted into the (fairly) present by your refs to throwing rocks (I realize you meant, in a literary sense). Once upon a time, in a far-off land named Viet Nam, a tethered balloon operation had run into problems. Tethered in a valley, to keep it less obvious, it kept encountering punctures that had to be patched. Turned out that, as it was being raised, Marines sitting on the surrounding ridges were throwing rocks to see if they could hit it. They could.
