Subject: RE: Signal Flag Mystery Closer to Solving

Message Detail:
Walt, do you have my articles on Civil War era USN/CSN naval signals("Signals Afloat") from "Signal Cipher," Jan-Mar 2003 (Vol. 17, Nos. 1-3)? The navy "cross flag" in "our" war was red cross on white field, not blue cross. The blue cross ("X") on McMillan's (very excellent) web site is modern, not CW era.
I thought we had an earlier posting about the cross-flag in Myer's Manual and/or the Waud/Harper's Weekly sketch, but couldn't readily find it with the search feature. (That's a good reminder to all of us to consider later reference search when assigning a subject line to a posting--look back and notice how many are "cutesy" or otherwise uninformative out of context.)
