Message Detail:
The date of the return is December 31, 1864.
(fourth quarter for 1864 on form 7)

A.K. Taylor was the acting AAQM for the Army of the Cumberland Signal Detachment in the Chattanooga area.

10 signal officers were assigned to the area during the late 1864 to early 1865 period. This Signal Corps detachment also employed several helpers at this time including a few women and ex-slaves. (on a general form 2)

The letter heads and watermarks on the stationery for this detachment are awesome. (Signal Department, Army of the Cumberland)(full spread Eagle watermarks)

Frederic Ullman was evidently stationed with his Artillery company (1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery - Battery "C") at a strategic location in the area. He was evidently trained to communicate by flag and torch as the return indicates.
