HEADQUARTERS II CORPS Notes: Henry held a commission in 2nd Pa. Heavy Artillery but served as an aide to his father, a major general of volunteers during the Civil War. Andrew was a brigadier general, U. S. Army and chief of engineers from 1866-1879. Congress passed an act on March 2, 1867 giving the President the authority to confer brevet rank on Regular Army officers for their “gallant, meritorious and faithful” service during the Civil War as a volunteer officer. All brevets issued under the act were dated March 2, 1867.
