Subject: Chap. Jeremiah Asher, 6th USCT

Message Detail:
Searching for letters, journals, and other personal documents referencing the life and military service of Jeremiah W. Asher of the Sixth U.S. Colored Infantry. Born in Connecticut in 1812 and descended from a slave taken from the coast of Guinea in Africa, Asher worked as a minister in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the start of the war. He joined the Sixth in December 1863, and died of typhoid fever in July 1865. His 1850 autobiography is published under the title "Incidents in the Life of the Rev. J. Asher." Any and all help appreciated.
