I do not know if you found the information you were seeking but this is what I found: Pvt.Patrick Newman, Me. Vol 14th Co. E was killed on Jan 13, 1863. He was in a "General Hospital" in Carrollton, Louisiana, when he died from Vul. Sclopet.
I would suggest if you have not located his grave that you check with Find-A-Grave.Com and also check online to see if the cemeteries also have an online search in Carrollton, La.
I found this information on Ancestry.Com. under U.S. Registers of Deaths of Volunteers 1861-1865.~Lori
